Q
Very cool drawing! what was the inspiration behind it?
A

Thanks! I mostly just wanted to practice drawing humans, as I tend to focus more on animals. Also, it’s fun to draw masks that are a mix of cultural styles.

I am working on posting more art soon, but until then I’ll continue with more examples from my mask collection.

Here’s a sort of weird Balinese goat mask I found several years ago in a refurbished furniture store (of all places). No idea how old or authentic it is, but I’m guessing it’s Balinese (judging by the eye shape, line quality, and type of wood it’s made out of).

aaah! so happy with this mask!
Was great fun making it for Monica (YonderBeasties).
If you like this one you should totally check out her Tumblr, she got a lot of wicked masks there, making me so proud to have it in her list of awesomeness! ^^

And thus, the three-tooth mask is finished :)

It’s breathtaking!!! Woooooo look at that sexy shine! Kabi did an amazing job on the mask I commissioned, and it’s more beautiful that I could have hoped for :) Check out the commission info here if you’re interested in getting your own mask from Kabi.

Just need to fix up the inside a bit more then it’s time to start with the varnish layers and the straps :>

This turned out sooo beautiful, wow!! I can’t believe you did all that tiny line work. And the white eyes are awesome! *Sigh* I’m so in love with it :)

The great and terrible Shere Khan from Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book (Shere means tiger, Khan means king or military leader). Also ridiculed and nicknamed “The Lame One” for his crippled leg. Those who are picked on sometimes turn into bullies themselves, as is true in Khan’s case.
Khan’s hands reference the Tarjani Mudra.

Good eye! :)

Work in progress: Khan after a second afternoon of work. The plan is to offer these as t-shirts and prints when I’m finished (maybe pillows too).

Work in progress: Shere KhanThis is just what I’ve been able to get done in an afternoon. I can’t say when I’ll be able to finish it (I’m sure I’ll be vectoring all week when I’m not at work).
